Good Morning, America,
If you caught my appearance on ABC on Friday morning, July 6, and are looking for more information about the equipment I showcased, or my book, you’ve come to the right place.
I’ve used all these tools in my own yard in Maine and have been quite satisfied with all of them:
- The Neuton™ Mower — Manufactured by Neuton Power Equipment of Vermont, the Neuton’s claim to fame is that it gets rid of the cord that most electric mowers still need to drag around. The negative is that the mower’s small cutting deck (14 inches) makes the mower somewhat impractical for large lawns, but everyone with a third acre lawn or smaller ought to be mowing with a Neuton, which puts out plenty of power for even the thickest of lawns. Check out www.myneuton.com for more information. Retails for approximately $350.
- The SunLawn Mower — Constructed with lightweight, but durable materials, this mower has been a mainstay of my lawn maintenance program for the last three years. The negative is that you can’t let the lawn get away from you and grow taller than 4 inches, or you’ll have a bear of a time getting it back in shape with the “reel” blades — which tend to simply push over tall grass. The upside is that this mower is lightweight, easy to push, requires no electricity or gas and usually remains sharp all season. Check out sunlawn.com for more information. Retails for approximately $160.
- Grasshog Cordless Trimmer — Made by the pioneer of electric lawn equipment, Black and Decker, this trimmer will go anywhere a gas-powered trimmer will go and come out an equal on performance. The upside is that it’s far quieter and, of course, more environmentally friendly. The battery lasts long enough to accomplish the weekly trimming around most average-sized yards. Check out blackanddecker.com. Retails from $100.
- The Organic Lawn Care Manual — Written by yours truly, the book has topped the sales lists in the lawn category since its release in February and has already been reprinted. Favorable reviews have come in from many corners. From what equipment to use, to how to mow, trim and fertilize, all the lawn info is in there with color photos and graphics on every page. For a signed copy, order the book through www.SafeLawns.org. For a better price, go to www.Amazon.com.
